Pen Photography

One aspect of 'The Leaky Pen' website that I have struggled to come to terms with is the photography involved.  Whether it is photographing my pencils, their pencil cases or other stationery paraphernalia I am never really sure what it is I am doing with the camera.

In particular I have struggled with the close up shots and the shadows created by my light sources (when I have considered my light sources).  Those two issues are by no means my only problems.  You only have to look at the photographs I have uploaded to see that improvement is needed.

I was going to ask a cousin of mine for her advice.  She has her own photography business and would certainly have some ideas and tips on the subject.  However, on a whim, I googled the topic of pen photography.  I was instantly rewarded.  It appears others have, unsurprisingly, trod this path before me.

Here are some valuable resources on pen photography any bumbling technophobe writing utensil fanatic could learn from;

Pen Photography - An Introduction - Terry Clark is a Pittsburgh based, professional photographer with more than than 25 years experience.

Pen Photography 101 - Gerry Rhoades of Montana Pens and Penturners.org wrote this easy to understand pen photography tutorial.

The Fountain Pen Network - A forum post rant with some simple tips for beginner photographers taking pictures of their prize stationery goods.

How To Photograph Pens - A guide written by Bill Kenner describing the steps to take when photographing pens.
