Bleistift, a pencil blog that has found a permanent place in my RSS reader stationery list, recently highlighted a 2007 article from Discover magazine. The article may be from three years ago but the content is still of interest. Entitled '20 Things You Didn't Know About... Pencils' the article lists just that. It would be remiss of me to copy whole swathes of the list here so instead I will give you just Number 5:
5 Pencil marks are made when tiny graphite flecks, often just thousandths of an inch wide, stick to the fibers that make up paper. (Source)
I found the article fascinating reading and I believe it is a great resource for pencil aficionados.
